Recreational Sports Board

Appointment:  By Vice President for Student Affairs via nominations

Chair:  Elected by Committee

Responsibilities:  

 

  1. Propose policies to the President of the University through the Vice President of Student Affairs regarding the overall operation of the Recreational Sports Division.
  2. Review and recommend funding, facilities, staffing and services of the Recreational Sports Division.
  3. Insure that discussion and review of major programs within the Recreational Sports Division occur prior to implementation.

Standing Committees

 

  1. Policy

 

The policy committee is charged with reviewing the current policies of all aspects of the Department of Recreational Sports; recommending modifications to the board as a whole and insuring the University Community is informed of any policy changes.  Specific duties include:

 

  1. Conduct periodic reviews of the policies of the recreation and fitness centers,

intramural sports, sport clubs, Lake Wauburg and the pools to see that the Department

is meeting the needs of the students.

  1. Reviews the internal procedures of the board and recommend changes when necessary

for the efficient function of the board.

c.     Conduct investigations into any aspect of the division when ordered to do so by the chair.

 

  1. Budget

 

The budget committee functions as the fiscal agent of the board; reviewing and developing budget

proposals for submission to student government, monitoring adherence to the budget, and hearing all issues regarding the allocation of the division’s budget.   Specific duties include:

 

  1. Assist the staff in the development of the budget for submission to the student senate.
  2. Review all requests for expenditures from the charter reserves account.
  3. To help the staff in allocating limited resources to best serve the needs of the students.
  4. Review all interim financial matters as delegated by the board.

 

  1. Facilities Planning

 

Functions as the agent of the physical plant of the department; assessing needs for facility upgrades, additions or enhancements; and reviewing the equitable allocation of space to best serve the needs of the students.  Specific duties include:

 

  1. Review requests for the use of facilities by non-university groups and make a

recommendation to the board on the request.

  1. Conduct needs assessment for additional facilities or the enhancement of existing

facilities and make such recommendations to the board.

  1. Forecast the recreational needs of the University of Florida Community by developing a twenty-year plan.  The plan shall take the following elements into account:

 

 

d.      The Committee shall utilize documents and achievements of the Department of Recreational Sports to assist in strategic planning to meet future needs of the University of Florida Community.

 

  Department of Recreational Sports Board of Directors to provide accurate

  information about the current state of their areas and their goals and plans for the

  immediate future.

 

 

 

  1.  Assessment Committee

 

  1.  Conduct needs assessment for additional facilities or the enhancement of existing

 facilities and make such recommendations to the board.

 

  1.  Work with RecSports staff to develop and deploy mechanisms for gathering feedback

 from the University of Florida Community to gauge current desires for the expansion of

                              all RecSports services and programs.
