Appointment: By Vice President for Research; Nominations solicited by Committee and must meet the following: Federal Regulation Requirements, Experience with Recombinant DNA, Animal, plant, and human experts

Responsibilities:
- Review all proposals regarding recombinant DNA research conducted at or sponsored by the institution to insure compliance with the appropriate regulations and guidelines.
- Review and approve all BSL3 and select agent project proposals to insure compliance with the appropriate rules and regulations.
- Establish and implement University policies that insure the safe conduct of these three categories of research.
- Certify to research support agencies that personnel, facilities, procedures and practices have been reviewed and are in compliance with the appropriate regulations.
- Create and maintain a central reference file and library of communications related to all aspects of regulated biological research.
