Institutional Biosafety Committee

Appointment:  By Vice President for Research; Nominations solicited by Committee and must meet the following: Federal Regulation Requirements, Experience with Recombinant DNA, Animal, plant, and human experts

Chair:  Solicited by Committee

Responsibilities:  

 
  1. Review all proposals regarding recombinant DNA research conducted at or sponsored by the institution to insure compliance with the appropriate regulations and guidelines.
  2. Review and approve all BSL3 and select agent project proposals to insure compliance with the appropriate rules and regulations.
  3. Establish and implement University policies that insure the safe conduct of these three categories of research.
  4. Certify to research support agencies that personnel, facilities, procedures and practices have been reviewed and are in compliance with the appropriate regulations.
  5. Create and maintain a central reference file and library of communications related to all aspects of regulated biological research.

Term:  2 years x 3
