General Education Task Force - Humanities

The Humanities General Education Task Force was established to consider the feasibility, design, and method of delivery of a rigorous and intellectually honest humanities course that:

• would be required of all incoming students at the University of Florida,
• which would not be satisfied by any course taken prior to enrolling at UF,
• would not be satisfied by AP, CLEP, or IB credit, and which would count for three credit hours of the current distribution requirement for the humanities portion of the general education requirement.

The Humanities General Education Task Force adjourned after preparing its final report, which recommended that HUM 2305: What is the Good Life? be a required course of all first-year students, beginning with the 2012 matriculating class.  The UCC approved that HUM 2305 should be a required course for all freshmen who enroll for the first time in Summer B 2012 or later and that the course will satisfy three credits of Humanities general education (see minutes of the UF Faculty Senate for January 26, 2012).
